Here’s a little about me:
My first career was as a professional makeup artist, my business, Makeup by Kim Porter, has been featured in the top wedding magazines and blogs including, The Knot and Style Me Pretty. I’ve worked with hundreds of brides, as well as high-profile politicians and celebrities, such as Vice President Mike Pence and Barbara Corcoran from “Shark Tank”. Between 2012 and 2014, I opened the first makeup-only studio in Virginia Beach and created my own makeup line.
I fell in love with teaching and coaching makeup artists early in my career and knew after years of studying personal development, business, and marketing, that I wanted to become a coach for women. In 2015 my husband and I found out we were expecting our third child and I was presented with the proverbial fork in the road… do I move my business back home to start working on my higher calling as a coach or go bigger with my makeup artistry business? I chose to follow my head and not my heart and a few months after our third child was born, I opened up a 4 station beauty bar. I was so busy hiring a team, booking weddings, and working in the studio but I started to hear the whispers of, “You’re suppose to be doing more”. I soon became depressed after realizing I had made a huge mistake, I was not living in my purpose and I had ignored my higher calling.
It was a difficult time for me but after sharing my story with others I realized I was not alone and that other women were feeling stuck in their lives and careers. The more I shared my story, the more clients were hiring me for coaching, it’s been an amazing transition from helping women feel better through makeup to helping women live their best lives through coaching.
It was a hard lesson to learn to listen to my heart but this is the core of my coaching, to follow our intuition, to get clear about what we really want and to live our lives with intention and gratitude. I hope by sharing my story I can inspire others to live their lives more authentically.
